StageHand uses two main types of content: Custom Post Types and Content Blocks.

Custom Post Types

WordPress evolved from a blogging platform at its inception into the robust platform it is today. Because of this WordPress by default comes with the post type, Posts.

Developers can also create what are called custom post types (CPTs), which can be tailored to a client’s needs. In the StageHand template, we’ve created three custom post types: Productions, People, and Callouts. Custom post types act like categories for your content.

A benefit of custom post types is that you only need to change a post’s content in a single spot! Although content from a CPT post is located in one spot, that content can then be pulled into several elements throughout your StageHand site.

Content Blocks

Content blocks are quite literally blocks of content. They can be customized, duplicated, or reordered on any page or post throughout your site.

StageHand provides the 16 different content blocks listed below. Click on a content block to learn more, see examples, and view a training video walking you through the fields. This video provides an overview of how content is organized in the StageHand template. There are two main types of content in this template: custom post types and content blocks. First, we will go over custom post types.

WordPress evolved from a blogging platform at its inception into what it is today. Because of this WordPress by default comes with the post type, Posts. Developers can also create what is called a custom post type, which can be tailored to clients needs. In this template, we’ve created three custom post types: productions, people, and callouts, which can be used throughout a StageHand site. Custom post types act like categories for your content and can be pulled into different elements throughout your site. For example, production posts can be pulled into individual production pages, the calendar, and production content blocks. The nice thing about custom post types is that you only need to change information for each of those elements in a single location.

Next, we will go over content blocks.

A content block is literally a block of content that can be customized, duplicated, or reordered on any page or post throughout your site. StageHand provides 15 different content blocks to allow clients to customize their sites to their specific needs. These include accordion, bios, calendar, column blocks, downloadables, gallery, Instagram, large image, map, posts, productions, sponsors, testimonial, video, and WYSIWYG. On the back end, this is what content blocks look like. To add a content block we’ll scroll down and select the ‘Add Content Block’ button. Once that’s selected you will choose which block you would like to add and it will automatically add the selected block to the bottom of the content block list. Each content block has a set of fields that we will go over in more detail in a different video. From here you can minimize, reorder, add, duplicate, or remove.

Videos have been created for each individual custom post type and content block to help with the content creation process on your site.
