Options hold a collection of useful features that have site-wide application. It can be found in the lefthand navigation in the WordPress Admin. Click on ‘Options’ and you will be taken to the General Options screen with a list of option tabs.

Note: None of these fields are required. If you leave any of them blank, it will not break anything. It simply will not show on the front end and the content will adjust.

Analytics

If your company would like Google Analytics or Google Tag Manager implemented on your site, this is where you can do that. You simply need to add your custom codes from your Google account—and you’ll be good to go!

Footer Info

This is where you can update all of the general information that lives in the footer of your site. These fields include email, phone, column 1 header/copy, column 2 header/copy, copyright, and column 3 copy.

This columns are set up as full formatting text fields to accommodate the wide variety of information that organizations may want to display here. Common use cases for the footer fields are:

physical address
mailing address
privacy policy
board/volunteer/member portals

Social Links

The Social Links tab is where you add social media information that appears in the site footer.

There are two fields for each social link. The platform and the corresponding URL. You have the option of choosing from 7 different social media platforms: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, YouTube, Spotify, and LinkedIn. The linked icons will automatically be added to your site footer. Please be sure to enter in the complete URL for your social profiles, not just the username or handle.

Alerts & Callout Options

We address these last two tabs—Alerts and Callout Options—in different videos as they are interconnected with different elements throughout the site.

In this tutorial, we will be going through the Options tab, which can be found in the menu on the left, in the WordPress dashboard. This will bring you to the General Options screen where you will see a list of option tabs.

The first is Analytics. If you would like to use Google Analytics or Google Tag Manager, this is where you can do that. You simply need to add your custom codes, and you should be good to go.

Next is the Social Links tab. Here you will add the social media information that appears in your site’s footer.

This is set up in what’s called a repeater field. You can add as many as you would like and each time you click ‘Add Social Link’ the fields repeat. The first field is the social platform. You have the option of choosing from seven different social media platforms: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, YouTube, Spotify, and LinkedIn.

The next field is a URL. Just copy and paste the corresponding social account URL here and that’s it. The linked icons will automatically be added to your site footer.

To change the styles of the icons, you’ll need to visit the customizer. If you need help with that we have a tutorial that walks you through the customizer step-by-step.

The next tab is Contact Info. This is where you will update all of the remaining footer content.

First are the mailing title and address. If your company has a mailing address that is separate from the physical address this is where that would be added.

Next are the location title and physical address. The physical address will be added as a link, which takes you to that location in Google Maps.

Following the addresses, you have the contact email and phone. Once these fields have been filled out it will automatically populate the footer and link to your email and phone number.

The last couple of fields are for copyright and disclaimer information.

One thing to note on all of these fields is that they are not required. If you leave any of these blank, it will not break anything. It simply will not show on the front end and the content will adjust.
